Women in the Word: A Workshop 2024
Bible Teacher: Jenny Fitch
Women in the Word: a Workshop is a yearly, two-day event that intersperses large group teaching sessions with small group hands-on learning sessions. These small Study Groups are the heart of the Workshop. They combine self-study on an assigned passage at home before the Workshop with group study at the Workshop. Each Study Group has six women and a trained Study Group Leader who will lead them as they dive deeply into a specific book or set of passages in the Bible.
Workshop 2024 features three large group sessions taught by Jenny Fitch in a series titled “Finding Lasting Joy: Studies in Philippians” and an Introductory Session taught by Kath Davis titled “Wading Through the Waters With Jesus.”

Finding Lasting Joy: Studies in Philippians
Bible Teacher: Jenny Fitch
Life is hard. We experience divisiveness in our culture and in the Church. We may suffer for being a Christian. We may feel like having joy in this life is impossible. Yet Paul tells us in the Book of Philippians that there is a way to find joy, a lasting joy that transcends our circumstances. This lasting joy is found only in Christ. We can find this joy when suffering for Christ’s sake and we can find this joy when pursuing Christ-centered unity with other believers. Join us as we meditate on this gospel of joy, a lasting joy that leads to “the God of peace” (Philippians 4:9). Click HERE for more information about Workshop 2024.
Small Study Groups are the heart — the unique heart — of the Workshop.
Most of us struggle to study a passage with its context in mind, including how it fits into the “Big Picture” of God’s redemptive plan. Study Groups are a safe place to practice these skills. In a process that is cumulative, cooperative, and cordial, the strengths of some in the group become the strengths of all!
There are two tracks to choose from – Teacher Track and Personal Study Track. Which one should you choose? Here is some helpful information:
The Teacher Track
… is for you who plan to lead or teach a Bible study. At home you study your assigned passage and develop a 5-minute lesson based on a central idea in the text. Specific steps to help you are in the Preparation Materials. At the Workshop, you present that very short, abridged lesson to your group. Then, all together, you dig further into the text as your leader facilitates a discussion that includes feedback on your central idea.
The Personal Study Track
… is for you who want to sharpen your Bible study skills and develop new ones. At home you study your assigned passage and identify a central idea in the text. Specific steps to help you are in the Preparation Materials. At the Workshop, you present to your group a 5-minute explanation showing how your passage supports your central idea. Then, all together, you dig further into the text as your leader facilitates a discussion that includes feedback on your central idea.

What to Expect and How to Prepare
When you register for the Workshop, you will be assigned to a Study Group based on the Track you selected – Teacher Track or Personal Track. Around two weeks before the Workshop starts, you will will be given a passage from the book of Scripture that your group is studying. You will work with that passage at home during the two weeks before the Workshop to identify a Central Idea (CI). Resources and tools to identify a Central Idea are provided along with your assignment to help you in this process. Your Study Group Leader will help you with any questions you may have. Once at the Workshop, you will share your work with the other women in your group. For more information on the Workshop Format and what to expect before and during the Workshop, click HERE.
